Workshop Details:
In this beginner-friendly clay hand building workshop, you’ll create your own ceramic tealight house. They'll be fired and ready for pick-up within three weeks - just in time for Christmas.
Near the latter end of the workshop, once our pieces have dried a bit, we will have time to paint them with underglaze, if you'd like to add a decorative and colourful touch. Otherwise, I can glaze them with a solid white glaze or a clear glaze to show off the natural clay colour. The choice is yours, and I will have samples to show you. All of the pieces made in my workshops are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
If you’d like to email me to brainstorm some ideas before you come, or to ask any questions, please do so! I will provide a house template for you to use, but you're free to also go rogue and design your own. I will guide you to ensure it's successful.
Workshops are limited to 12 participants. If you would like to book a private event, please get in touch! I’d love to talk to you about this further.
Some additional fineprint:
Workshop spaces are non-refundable. However, they are transferable. So if you can find a friend to take your place, we can work something out. Please just contact me ahead of time.
Due to the unpredictable nature of ceramics, I cannot be held responsible for the outcome or appearance of your piece(s). I will do my best to guide you to create something successful, and I will take great care with your work when it comes home with me. However, ceramics are finicky - and cracks and unexpected glaze colours can still happen. If this happens, unfortunately I cannot offer a refund - but hopefully you will still love your piece, however (im)perfect.
A bit more about Carmyn and a note on pricing:
Hello! So nice to meet you. I’m Carmyn (she/her) and I live in the Strathearn neighbourhood. I have been teaching in various capacities for 8+ years, and making my own handbuilt ceramics for close to three. I love to facilitate opportunities for creativity, and I have a laid-back personality and fun approach to teaching.
Why $100? Each piece spends a whopping 48 hours in a kiln! This adds up, in terms of equipment use, time, and electricity bills. While clay is an inexpensive medium, glaze IS expensive. Plus, I need to rent the hall, do admin work, and pay for a bunch of other little things that really add up along the way. Hope that helps bring some transparency to the price. <3
